There are two types of air con refrigerant used in UK cars. Using the wrong one can damage your system.
R134A
Used in most cars manufactured before 2017. The standard refrigerant for older vehicles.
R1234YF
Required in most cars manufactured from 2017 onwards. More environmentally friendly but costs more to recharge.

We've invested in the TEXA Konfort 760 Touch — the flagship of TEXA's air conditioning range, and the same calibre of fully automatic station you'll find in franchised main dealer workshops. It's a serious piece of kit, and it's the reason we can do air con properly rather than just topping it up.
The “2 Gas Ready” badge is the important bit: it handles both R134A and R1234YF in-house. A lot of garages only have the older R134A equipment, so anything built from around 2017 onwards gets turned away or sent elsewhere. We can take either, on site, same visit.
It runs the whole job automatically — recovering the old refrigerant, recycling it, pulling a vacuum to prove the system holds pressure, then recharging with the exact gas and oil weight your car's manufacturer specifies. Measured to the gram, not estimated by eye. That's the difference between a re-gas that lasts and one that is warm again by next summer.
Signs Your Air Con Needs Attention
Not Cooling Properly
The most obvious sign. Air con systems naturally lose refrigerant over time — typically around 10–15% per year — so a system that was fine last summer may struggle this year.
Musty or Unpleasant Smell
Bacteria and mould can build up in the evaporator when the system isn't used regularly. An antibacterial treatment alongside a re-gas usually sorts this.
Weak Airflow
If the fan seems fine but airflow from the vents feels reduced, a blocked cabin filter or a leak in the system could be the cause. We check both.
Window Fogging Slowly
Air conditioning does more than cool — it dehumidifies air, which is what clears a fogged windscreen quickly. A poorly functioning system means slower demisting and reduced visibility.

Cabin Air Filter Check
A blocked cabin filter reduces airflow significantly. We inspect it and recommend replacement if it's overdue — most manufacturers suggest every 12,000–15,000 miles.
